Abstract: This collection contains a miscellany of material, including letters by Thomas Moore Woods, Company K, 16th Alabama Infantry, CSA 1861-1862, James M. Springfield, Company L, 24th Regiment Mississippi Volunteers, and G. W. Woods 9th Alabama Cavalry, Selma. It also includes a collection of biographical abstracts of various Revolutionary soldiers and families; store receipts from Columbus and Caledonia, Mississippi, and Vernon, Alabama; land deeds; and church records from various congregations in Mississippi and Alabama.Scope and Content Note: Letters from Thomas Moore Woods, Company K, 16th Alabama Infantry, CSA 1861-1862. Store account for Morton's Mill, Alabama, 1861.Biographical/Historical Note: John Woods was born July 25, 1785 in Madison County, Kentucky. He married Susannah Wells there, moved to Williamson County, Tennessee for two years, to Franklin County, Tennessee for eight years, and finally to Marion County, Alabama about 1818, where he died in 1868. His was one of the first two families to settle in Marion County. Thomas Wells Woods, brother J. B. Woods, George W. Woods. Sister Liza Ann Woods married Thompson Gilmer. B.
