Abstract: This collection includes short biographical clippings, letters, and other materials of this Talladega, Alabama, attorney and Congressman.Scope and Content Note: This collection includes short biographical clippings, a letter dated 1873 regarding photographs, an 1875 claim against the U.S. government for services worth $24 provided in 1856, and a letter to the Forney Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy in 1903, thanking them for honoring him with an award.Biographical/Historical Note: Pelham was born Person County, North Carolina, 12 March 1835. He moved to Alabama with his parents in 1838, attended common schools, became an attorney, and opened a law practice in Talladega, Alabama, in 1858. He was a Lieutenant in Company C, 51st Alabama Cavalry, C.S.A., and after the Civil War, judge on the 10th Alabama Circuit Court. While serving in that capacity he was elected to U.S. House of Representative in the 43rd Congress on the Republican ticket
