Abstract: Personal papers of Evelyn Fleming, a New Jersey native, who served in the American Red Cross during World War II.Scope and Content Note: The collection consists primarily of the personal papers of Evelyn Fleming, a New Jersey native who served in the American Red Cross during World War II. The collection contains letters, greeting cards, photos, pamphlets, and other materials, most of which relate to her service in the Red Cross. There are also approximately 180 photographs.Biographical/Historical Note: Evelyn Fleming, a New Jersey native, was born about 1913, to Burton and Julia Fleming. She served in the Red Cross during World War II. She was stationed at the Lawson General Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. By 1942 she was the Assistant Field Director of the Red Cross Hospital in Fort Eustis, Virginia, and in 1944 was promoted to the Field Director of the Nichols General Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky
