Brian N. Hamel, executive director of the Loring Development Authority, yesterday said that plans for a federal defense accounting center and a Job Corps center at Loring Air Force Base in Limestone are being accelerated. Hamel made the comments yesterday at a luncheon in South Portland that paired leaders from Cumberland and Aroostook counties. The exchange, initiated by the Maine Development Foundation, matched residents of the two counties who are active in business, politics, human services and education, and is designed to unite leaders from the two counties by showing them they face common problems and opportunities.
