Unum Corp. has initiated a major reorganization involving three of its operations that will cost millions of dollars over the next five years and is intended to result in a more flexible organization that can change easily with shifts in society and the marketplace. While the insurance company, the leading seller of disability insurance in the nation, does not plan to lay off any of its employees or transfer jobs out of Portland, some 2,500 employees in Portland will see their work change as a result of the reorganization.
