Angus King, an independent gubernatorial candidate has proposed that the state offer special credit cards, Katahdin Cards , to the public in order to raise money for land preservation. The funds would be administered by the Land for Maine\u27s Future Board. King suggested that perhaps $1 million a year could be raised by issuing the cards in conjunction with a bank that would pay the state a royalty on each transaction. Such cards are available in others states such as Iowa and Montanta. The Maine Legislature considered issuing a similar card in 1991 but allowed the bill to die
