The Federal Energy Regulation Commission, which is considering the fate of Edwards Dam in Augusta, has announced the beginning of a one- to two-year environmental impact study of the Kennebec River between Augusta and Moosehead Lake. The 3.5-megawatt, 157-year-old dam is owned by Edwards Manufacturing Inc. of Lisbon Falls, which earns $1 million annually by selling the power generated by the dam to Central Maine Power Co. The Natural Resources Council of Maine and Gov. John McKernan are among those who want the dam decommissioned. Details
