The federal Environmental Protection Agency on Monday recommended that well owners using submersible pumps have their drinking water tested for lead, prompting Mainers to call well-drilling companies and environmental testing laboratories yesterday. A recent study shows that submenrsible pumps with brass and bronze parts can leach high amounts of lead. Around 60 percent of Mainers get their household water from wells. Details
