Individuals in Cumberland County convicted twice of operating under the influence will now have an alternative to spending the traditional and mandatory sentence of seven days in jail -- A new program will allow offenders to perform community service and attend substance abuse therapy for a week, with the first program -- scheduled for the first week of April at the Baxter School for the Deaf in Falmouth -- Participants will spend 56 hours fixing up the school, while evenings will be devoted to therapy at the Recovery Center at Mercy Hospital in Portland -- Detail
