The South Portland City Council on Monday voted to approve a police department plan under which nine police cruisers will be leased for three years. Leasing vehicles instead of purchasing them is an increasingly attractive proposition for police departments across the country. Locally the York County Sheriff\u27s Department has been leasing cruisers since 1991, while the Portland Police Department is still debating whether leasing is too expensive. Details
