Maine Attorney General Michael E. Carpenter joined with other state attorneys general calling on the Clinton administration to increase protection for states under the North American Free Trade Agreement. In a letter to be sent to U.S. Trade Representative Mickey Kantor, the group said NAFTA should contain provisions allowing the states to set stricter standards than those of the federal government.
