As the Maine Bureau of Mental Retardation proceeds with plans to close the Pineland Center, it is relying increasingly on community-based systems of care to provide for the state\u27s mentally retarded adults. One such private, non-profit agency is Port Resources, which operates a network of 17 homes for the mentally retarded.
