The Maine Chapter of the Nature Conservancy has purchased 1,015 acres of the Waterboro Barrens pine forest in Shapleigh, doubling the size of the existing preserve. The barrens, a sandy stretch of pitch pine and scrub oak, is home to a variety of rare moths and butterflies
