Officials with the Maine Department of Corrections and the Maine Civil Liberties Union say that the state\u27s women prisoners are not receiving the same treatment as male prisoners. Because of the low number of female prisoners, just 55 out of a total of 1,432 inmates in the state\u27s prisons and pre-release centers, they are not offered the same program and housing options as the men.
