Article on the possibilities for wind power in Maine, discussing the economics of wind power production and distribution, and laying out the pros and cons of two industrial wind projects proposed for the state. Bangor-based Evergreen Wind Energy, a subsidy of UPC Wind Partners of Newton, Mass., is working on a wind farm to be built on Mars Hill Mountain, and Endless Energy of Yarmouth has plans for two parcels of land near Sugarloaf. Harvey Lee is president of Endless Energy. His plan calls for 29 turbines, 15 on Redington Pond Mountain and 14 on Black Nubble. At their peak generating capacity, they will eliminate 600,000 pounds of fossil-fuel emissions every day. J. T. Horn, of the Appalachian Trail Conference, opposes the wind farm because roads, power lines, and the turbines themselves would be erected within view of the Appalachian Trail. Details
