Feature article about a referendum question that would ban so-called partial-birth abortions in Maine, which will appear on Nov. 2 referendum ballots across the state. Referendum supporters, including the Christian Civic League, the Catholic Church and other anti-abortion groups in Maine, say the issue is about one procedure in Maine. The No on 1 Coalition, made up of a host of pro-choice groups, argues that the referendum is not about a specific procedure, but would ban all abortions because of its intentionally vague language. Both sides agree the question of late-term abortions is destined to end up before the U.S. Supreme Court
