The product of a Depression-era Civilian Conservation Corps project, the 1,400-acre property became part of the nucleus of a fledging park system in the 1940s. Today, Maine boasts 32 state parks, 28 public lands and 11 historical sites spread over 70,000 acres. Sebago Lake State Park, which has 250 campsites and up to 1,200 visitors a night, generates 40 percent of all reservation income at Maine\u27s state parks. It ranks second behind Camden Hills State Park with 188,380 users in 1999, compared to Camden Hills\u27 223,595. But of the 12 state parks that offer camping, Sebago is the only one that fills its reservable sites for most of the summer shortly after reservations open Jan. 1
