The Maine Legislature\u27s Taxation Committee has agreed to cut by $4 million the appropriation for the Business Equipment Tax Reimbursement Program, also known as BETR. The reductions eliminate utilities and other communication companies from the program, and businesses can no longer expect reimbursements for office furniture. State representative Roland Sampson, D-Jay, sponsored L.D. 780, which would prevent companies from benefiting from two separate exemptions. The measure was tabled by the committee. Details
