State senator Jane Amero, chair of a task force in charge of bringing a state magnet school for the arts to southern Maine, says there are enough commitments from public sources and private foundations to proceed with the school. The task force is looking at the University of Southern Maine dormitory on Congress Street in Portland and the Gov. Baxter School for the Deaf in Falmouth as sites for the school. The school would open for the 1997-98 school year, and would offer six concentrations of study. Details
