Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Maine wants to form a for-profit health maintenance organization with Maine Medical Center in Portland and Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. A similar for-profit partnership is being discussed with Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. Blue Cross and Blue Shield says the HMOs must be for-profit so the surplus money can be channeled back into the company\u27s nonprofit business.
