Maine.Net of Gray and Portland, owned by Chris Miller and Andrew T. Robinson, is connecting home and business computers in Maine to the Internet without an out-of-state phone company or long-distance charges. The company is joined by civic, educational, private and grassroots groups with plans to bring Maine telecommunications in line with the rest of the country. Until recently computer users in the state could connect to the Internet only through long-distance calls to a company in another state
