The Maine State Prison in Thomaston houses 410 men, all but 17 of them white, none of them with a chance for parole. Maine abolished parole in 1976, and Warden Martin Magnusson would like to see it reinstated. Around 50 inmates work in the prison\u27s industry program, and another 100 are involved in the crafts program. Most of the other inmates get some part-time work, but 43 have no work at all.
