Maine\u27s school construction system requires brand-new buildings, even when less expensive renovations would suffice. The Governor\u27s School Facilities Commission is now preparing recommendations for the Maine Legislature on how to change the system. Searsport District High School, part of School Administrative District 56, had its accreditation withdrawn last year, after voters rejected a $4 million bond issue for a new school. SDHS is 25th on the state\u27s regular project list for funding school construction, but at the current rate of funding it could expect state assistance no earlier than 2207. Details
