A total of 70,263 of the state\u27s loon license plates have been sold to date, putting Maine second among states with conservation programs. The loon plates rank sixth nationally in terms of dollars raised, and ten percent of Maine\u27s registered automobiles now sport them. The loon plate costs $20 in addition to the $22 vehicle registration fee, and renewals cost $15 annually.
