Preparations for the 1998-1999 Eastern Maine Tournament, held at Bangor Auditorium annually, are already underway. It is estimated that 107,000 high school basketball fans will watch the Class A, B, C and D tournaments in February and March. The games yield about $250,000 in ticket sales, and another $250,000 in concession sales. The tournament is sponsored by the Maine Principals Association , which uses the proceeds to fund other activities such as drama, Academic Decathlon, the state science fair and future basketball tournaments. Bill Fletcher, a retired educator and director of the tournament, said for people in Eastern Maine, this is the biggest event of the year.
