A survey of 1,000 Maine residents sponsored by the Maine Coalition for Excellence in Education found that 71 percent of respondents see a need for some kind of change in the operation of public schools in the state. The survey was paid for by grants from Unum and NYNEX and was conducted by Market Decisions of South Portland, and survey results will be used to promote educational reform among state and local policymakers.
