The Maine Land Use Regulation Commission on July 17 voted 4-0 to approve a conditional permit for a third electric generator for the edge of an underground aquifer on Monhegan Island. LURC placed 282 acres of the watershed in an aquifer protection district in 1990, and some residents see the recent vote as an about-face.
