State representative Paul Volenick has introducted legislation to control backyard burning in Maine. The Maine Legislature\u27s Natural Resources Committee is looking at how to limit what people are burning and wants to determine if backyard burning is more of an issue in southern Maine than in sparsely populated northern areas. Jim Brooks of the state\u27s Bureau of Air Quality receives around 100 complaints annually about backyard burning. The Maine Municipal Association is opposed to a statewide ban on backyard burning, and some observers predicted citizens would dump refuse in the woods if a ban is enacted. Details
