Thirteen white water rafting outfitters have complained to the Department of Inland Fisheries that Northern Outdoors, founded by Wayne Hockmeyer and owned by his wife, Suzie Hockmeyher, and Adventure Bound, owned by Wayne Hockmeyer, are affiliated and are in violation of a state law prohibiting affiliated concerns from operating on the Kennebeck, an allocated river with state controlled usage. Commissioner Lee Perry of the state Department of Inland Fisheries &Wildlife (IF& W) has ruled that the two companies, are not affiliated, but other rafting companies believe the implications of the IF&W decision could undercut the spirit of the rafting law and compromise the integrity of the regulatory system.
