The staff of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission is recommending removal of the Edwards Dam in Augusta. FERC says installing fishways on the dam would make licensing the project around 1.7 times more costly than removing the dam. Removing the dam would allow fish that do not use fishways access to the 17 miles of spawning habitat above the dam. The staff recommendation, which could be overturned by commissioners, represents a turnaround from preliminary recommendations
