A questionnaire distributed to islanders last month revealed that the Department of Transportation (DOT) is giving serious consideration to using Island Transporter, a ferry owned by Rockland Marine. This past year, the Matinicus ferries transported 557 passengers and 198 vehicles. Maine law mandates that DOT provide at least 24 trips per year
