News piece on a proposal before the Land Use Regulation Commission (LURC) that would ban jet skis and other craft with more than 20 horsepower on a 100-mile stretch of the St. John River from the Allagash town line to Baker Lake. The prohibition was recommended by the St. John River Advisory Committee, comprised of representatives of shoreland landowners and the staffs of state resource agencies. The upper St. John is the longest free-flowing river in the eastern U.S. and is famed for its wild and remote characteristics. LURC\u27s commissioners will vote on the proposal at their meeting in Millinocket Oct. 18
