Saddleback ski area in Rangeley, once a family attraction, went into decline when management was mired in a decade-long legal battle over an expansion involving part of the Appalachian Trail. Bill Berry, a retired geology professor from Farmington, his wife, Irene, and their seven children bought the mountain for $8 million in 2003. They\u27ve since built a new base lodge, put more than $20 million into the mountain; and want to add new lifts, trails, and condos, while maintaining Saddleback\u27s wilderness feel and keeping ticket prices low to appeal to locals. Gradually, the ski area seems to be bringing back the faithful
