Maine\u27s Land Use Regulation Commission is expected to approve Plum Creek\u27s massive development plan for the Moosehead Lake region this fall, following four years of contention between the company and its adversaries. In the past ten years, more than seven million acres in Maine\u27s North Woods have changed hands, hastening the decline of the area\u27s outdoor recreation and forest-products industries and of its wildlife. Even more at risk is the promise of peace and remoteness the land offers.
