Thanks to a Right-of-Way Discovery grant from the Maine Coastal Program, the town of Machiasport can guarantee access for lobstermen, fishermen, and others to Gray\u27s Beach, which the town bought from a private owner. In Maine there are only 350 documented public access sites, less than one for every 11 miles of shoreline. The grants help towns find and reestablish lost or forgotten rights-of-way to the ocean, in a time when new owners are increasingly cutting off traditional access points. So far, 54 communities have received discovery grants
