Although Maine generates more electricity than it needs, ratepayers here will subsidize power plant construction in Connecticut and Massachusetts by more than $300 million. In an interview, Sharon Reishus, a commissioner of the Maine Public Utilities Commission (PUC), discusses how Maine might pull out of the regional pool, possibly joining with maritime Canada or creating a standalone entity. In June, the PUC launched an investigation to explore alternatives to membership in the New England Power Pool
