Bath Iron Works will transition from completing the Navy\u27s current DDG destroyer model in 2005 and building the next-generation model, perhaps not until 2007. BIW will also be building fewer of the new DD(X) model. BIW president Dugan Shipway is focusing on these uncertainties by streamlining the shipbuilding process. BIW\u27s biggest vulnerability is that it builds only one type of ship for the Navy.
