Focus Sustainability article about the conversion of the former Georgia Pacific mill in Old Town into the Old Town Fuel & Fiber plant which now produces of 600 tons of kraft pulp per day. In addition to pulp production, the plant generates its own electricity, selling excess back to the grid, and will soon build a biorefinery which will utilize a byproduct of the pulping process to create biobutanol, a renewable energy substitute for gasoline. Lynn Tilton and her New York private equity firm, Patriarch Partners, purchased the mill for $19 million and hopes to derive additional future benefits from the development of proprietary technology that will refine the extracting process.
