75 years ago, the Maine Lobstermen\u27s Association went to war with a powerful group of lobster dealers who effectively rigged prices on the lobster market. Vinalhaven lobsterman Leslie Dyer led a 4000-boat coastwide lobster strike, the first statewide collaborative action in lobstering history. The controversy eventually escalated into an FBI investigation and price-fixing indictments against both the dealers and the lobstermen, and despite Dyer\u27s eventual conviction the MLA became a permanent force to be reckoned with in Washington, Augusta, and Maine dealers\u27 wharves.
