Academic standards for these programs fall far short of state requirements, according to a report by an on-site review committee released Feb. 7. The school, which provides Maine\u27s only residential program for deaf and hearing-impaired children, was mandated by the Legislature in 2000 to bring its teaching standards up to a public-school level, but it hasn\u27t.
