Community leaders and minority students fear that Portland High School has not been sufficiently proactive in defusing racial tension, which last year started with a simple incident between two students, divided the school along racial lines, and then spread outside the school. Principal Dana Allen, who says the school has a zero tolerance policy for racism, is adding cafeteria supervisors and will continue to employ a security guard. An action team will also bring community leaders and students together to discuss how to create an environment free of racism.
