City piece describing some of the problems encountered at Portland\u27s polling place during the recent primary election, when, for example, an unknown number Democratic voters at the polling place serving the Western Prom, Libbytown, and Stroudwater were given the wrong ballots in the state House primary contest between Democrat John McDonough and Richard Farnsworth. Farnsworth lost by a mere 12 votes, and the Secretary of State will probably have to order a new election in August. A similar mistake occurred in 1996 when voters were given in a state senate race between Democrat Boyd Marley and Republican Joel Abromson. Part of the problem appears to be that polling station workers tend to be quite elderly and receive little training. ...
