Maine is one of ten states in the nation with bottle laws, and the only one with a deposit on juice bottles. The state\u27s bottle law was enacted in 1978 and expanded in 1990, and has meant cleaner roadsides and an eight to ten percent reduction in the solid waste stream. Veryfine Juices of Massachusetts claims the law is unfair and costs the company around $300,000 annually, and is lobbying for its repeal. A legislative task force will hold its third and final meeting on the issue on October 11. Details, related editorial
