The freedom of expression which public school teachers exercise both inside and outside the classroom is confined within certain boundaries. This article explores issues, interests, and concerns which are relevant in defining these boundaries as reflected in the activities and comments of School Boards, the Community, parents, students, and teachers. The socialization of children is an important function of the education system, and is a function which is achieved through various messages communicated through curriculums. To maintain the effectiveness of messages inherent in the curriculum, the expression of public school teachers must be subject to some control.
