Bioética del Consuelo

When one is between life and the other life, when healing is not possible, palliative medicine and even more the bioethical principle of relieving pain and always consoling, becomes a pillar for medical behavior.Nowadays, medicine has observed that consoling the sick and the emphasis on palliative treatment have opened new possibilities of taking care of the dying.Nevertheless, to deny the presence of death or to apply technology uselessly, impedes the bioethics of consolation, and also generates the fatalism that leads to euthanasia. Consolidation is valid in a contingent world, born from a free lovely and creative act. To console makes sense in an accidental and free world because consolidation is the universal harmony among everything in creation.The author also discusses the role of consolation as the recognition of the other as a person, and distinguishes between therapeutic and spiritual consolation. The latter might be related to Bioethics as being oriented toward helping people die whit dignity.Cuando se está entre la vida y la otra vida, la medicina paliativa y más aun, el principio bioético que cuando curar ya no es posible, al menos aliviar siempre consolar se constituye en pilar del comportamiento médico.La medicina ha observado el consuelo al enfermo y el énfasis en lo paliativo ha abierto, en la actualidad, nuevas posibilidades de cuidar al que agoniza.Sin embargo, negar la presencia de la muerte o utilizar fútilmente la técnica impiden la bioética del consuelo. Igualmente, el fatalismo que lleva a la eutanasia. El consuelo solo cabe en un mundo contingente, salido de un acto libre, amoroso y creador. Consolar tiene sentido en un universo libre y accidental ya que el consuelo es la armonía universal entre todo lo creado.El autor discute también el papel del consuelo como reconocimiento del otro como persona y distingue entre consuelo terapéutico y espiritual. Este último estaría relacionado con la bioética al estar encaminado a ayudar a bien morir.
