The capital and its surrounding areas constitute an important agglomeration even by European standards. Greater Budapest includes Budapest itself with its two million inhabitants and the adjoining areas which include altogether 0.4 million inhabitants in 43 settlements. 32 per cent of Budapest's passenger traffic is made up of journeys directed towards or coming from the inner part of the capital, 17 per cent are journeys within the inner districts; 90 per cent of the latter ones are handled by means of public transport and 10 per cent by individual means of transport.
