McClellan Shacklett constructed his Natural Hot Sulphur Wells spa in 1893, drawing large crowds who desired to partake in the hot sulfuric waters which were believed to have health benefits. The building pictured burned down in 1894, and was replaced by a larger, grander hotel and spa
