Photograph of aerial performer Maryse Begary at Kelvin Hall, Glasgow 1966. Maryse was born Andrée Auclère in Paris, France in 1926. Originally starting off as a gymnast, Maryse was a talented aerialist who was noted for her handstand on a trapeze bar. She made her debut at Cirque Medarno in Paris at the age of 13 and went on to have a long career. She appeared in many European Circuses in the 1940s and 1950s including Bertram Mills, Circus Carre, Blackpool Tower, Circus Schumann, Circo Americano-Castilla and Kelvin Hall.
