Interpersonal violence has devastating effects on human society because of long-term impacts on economic, health, and human development. It has been recently recognized as a major global health problem contributing significantly to the global burden of disease. Jamaica has the third highest murder rate in the world and a long history of politically motivated violence.The purpose of this study was to use a public health approach to investigate the problem of violence in Jamaica. The research design included the application of the epidemiologic model of injuries to a dataset of violence-related injuries.
