The purpose of this study was to assess the validity of the Standard Progressive Matrices (SPM) and a revised version of the Mill Hill Vocabulary Scale (MHV-R) in English or Spanish in predicting the academic achievement of Hispanic middle high school students, and to determine the extent to which English language proficiency (ELP) moderated the nature of the relation. A second purpose was to study the differences between the language of the vocabulary tests in the prediction of achievement across different ELP groups.
